how to clean the heads on a VCR

If you own a VCR but don't know how to clean the audio, recording, and video heads to improve the video quality, then you are reading the right blog. However, you'll need a few things before you start cleaning your VCR heads.

You'll need Q-Tips, isopropyl alcohol, an air duster can, and alcohol swabs.

  1. Unplug your VCR and take off the metal cover(there should be a few phillips head screws at the back of the VCR)
  2. Use your air duster can to blow out any dust that could be inside your VCR
  3. Soak the Q-Tips in isopropyl alcohol and rub the Q-Tips against the audio and recording heads(the audio head will be to the left of the video head, and the recording head will be near the AV input port on your VCR)
  4. Use an alcohol swab on the video head by lightly pressing the swab against the video while you use your free hand to spin the video head(make sure to only spin the video head by touching the top of the video head to prevent reversing the work you are doing by putting oil onto the video head)
  5. Finally, leave the metal cover off of your VCR for a few minutes to let the isopropyl alcohol evaporate
