album titles are sposed to be links but I couldn't get one to work ORZ. happy listening... >_>!
lmk if you liked anything as always. spend some time with 'em!

simply saucer - cyborgs revisited (1974-75)

genre: proto-punk, experimental rock
FFO: the sonics, syd barrett, the nerves

rating: 10/10

unfortunately for you my sensibilities seem to align with those of a pitchfork writer for the most part. I know they have a host of critics for different genres and that this confession is embarrassing to admit, but it’s partially true. this group has been relatively undiscovered but well loved by those who drank the kool-aid. simply saucer feels like if the sonics touched down from mars in a ufo, with the noisy feedback’d guitars to prove it. they claim heavy metal on songs like illegal bodies, but it more translates to experimental noise rock through a modern lens. there’s definitely some blues influence as well, the rockin’ rollin’ type. songs I would recommend: bullet proof nothing, electro rock, instant pleasure, but for any self-assured punk listener it needs to be heard in full.

bap. - m album tiga (2024)
genre: alternative r&b, abstract hip-hop

FFO: dean blunt, frank ocean
rating: 7.5/10

on my first listen I found a couple new songs to add to my monthly playlist. on my third listen I had added 5 or 6 songs to my playlist. on my fifth listen I found a gallery of eclectic pieces that fit together like a puzzle. this album feels very cohesive, though is also quite varied. the sparse production leaves room for you to pay attention to the message being put across. it’s got those moments of chilled, lo-fi guitar that you might look for in an album of this genre, as well as an idm type beat and a music box type beat. songs I would recommend: gairah (live from the fuck off), wake up! look alive!, angee song. I am a greatest hits person, fuck U Fred Armisen. (jkjkjk i luvv you)

novos baianos - acabou chorare (1972)

can't get the link to work look up vagabundo nao e facil... it's from a different album. :) happy listening!

genre: MPB, brazilian pop

FFO: joao gilberto, antonio carlos jobim, astrud gilberto

rating: 10/10

this is an elegant display of popular brazilian music, with energetic vocals, dancing and swirling guitars, and percussively plucked guitars as well. the composition is stripped down to the bare minimum in terms of instruments, but the music still makes you want to swing with a partner perhaps. perfect for the transitioning season between winter and spring. songs I would recommend: brasil pandeiro, tinindo trincando, misterio do planeta. my favorites feature female vocalist baby consuela, album to be experienced as a whole.

motormark - chrome tape (2004)

genre: dance punk, post-punk revival

FFO: ludus, amyl and the sniffers, beck
rating: 9/10

I thoroughly enjoy this album. it is a masterclass of modern dance punk specifically from the mid aughts.  an energetic, barked delivery, both male and female vocals, jaunty synths, jangling and driving guitars. the whole picture becomes what I think it would feel like to be a teenager working at a fairground and being too old to ride the merry-go-round but doing it anyway. it even captures the awkward nature of being a young adult. songs I would recommend: eat.drink.sleep.think., we are the public, hold your tongue

thanks for reading once again, LIZZYDOTHEDISHES!

Didn't hate Simply Saucer, but it didn't particularly pull me in. Maybe mostly an older production thing I dunno. But not bad.

bap was weird to me. Not really my thing at first listen but I did find it interesting. May listen some more and see where I end up with it.

Novos Baianos is very good imo. I listen to everything by the album, unless it's just a song somebody happens to share. If I like the song I go full album. Even if I don't have time to finish I always start with the first song of any album. This one I put ear buds in and listened in bed. I can't speak the language but I kinda like that about some albums. I typically have to really focus on lyrics to make sense of them anyway, instead of focusing on any other sounds, so I enjoy the sounds of foreign languages.

Motormark didn't jump out at me either. Don't hate it, could tap my toe to it, but it's not something I would put on.

Seems we’ve surprised each other a few times lol. I didn’t expect you to be into Cinemechanica and was way off base on some direct suggestions. This is fun. I’m having lots of fun.
