mineballsandshaftcraft (movie)
watched the minecraft movie last friday at an IMAX theatre! i wish I knew how massive an IMAX theatre screen was before I got tickets because we sat kinda close, and the screen encompassed my entire peripheral.
Anyway... the movie was a lot better than I thought it was going to be! I was hyped regardless if it was going to be a sack of crap or not, and i ended up enjoying it regardless. I wasn't as excited or gleeful as when I watched the FNaF movie in theatres, i was kicking my feet the whole time during that thing. but minecraft was still fine. you can tell the directors and writers knew it would be impossible to make a good minecraft movie, so they leaned full-in on it being stupid and doing whatever. I liked it a lot for that tbh though. I'd say the jokes had a 50/50 chance of landing, and when they were funny they were pretty good and when they were not funny they were moderately upsetting.
also, i don't care what anyone thinks about it, but general chungus is an aweomse name . one of the writers is like 22 and thought "wouldn't it be really funny" and it was to me so congrats to that writer in particular
(peanut butter) GAME(r) JAM
I went to my future college for an event there and I got to talk with a couple of the game development professors, and one of them was talking about a game jam that was happening in the same night and I couldn't participate (or, rather wouldn't) because I had no prep time and I wouldn't have the time that weekend to do it. so i looked on itch.io and found one starting tomorrow (4/11, in 33 MINUTES as of RIGHT NOW ME WRITING AT 11:26PM on 4/10). 3 days, horror theme, I'm very excited. I honestly should've been doing game jams a long time ago, but theres no better time to start than now so here i am
i know for a fact the game is going to be pretty crap visually because I have barely any 3D modeling experience and no rigging experience and barely any music experience so it might be a bit rough. but I see it as an interesting obstacle to make something unique. all cool things were made with limitations set in place and limitations bring innovation and creativity. popular example, the first silent hill game had the fog there because the ps1 couldn't render five feet of suburb without crapping out and crashing, so they added it to make it so the console didn't have the render out a ton of the town. as it turned out, it looked really really really really really good and everyone thought it was scary and unique and it's a staple in all of the games now. so, I don't mean to imply that I'll be making the next cult classic indie horror, but I hope these limitations can awaken some unfound skill in me during the jam.
since I have school tomorrow I'm going to have wasted almost a whole day, but I'll let friday be a brainstorm day. just focus on that the whole time during free time in school and then, by the end of the school day, stick with whatever i've pondered up. it's important to have limits/whatever you call em's when making game jams so you dont end up running out of all time trying to add a hunger system to your crappy 2d game jam platformer. saturday and sunday will be all hyperfocused development. I'll get good sleep too, that's important. staying up late is a bad idea, you are all mind foggy for the whole next day if your going off 2 hours of sleep.
I'll keep you gise updated.... next post will likely be about the game, and I'll document my experience with my FIRST GAME JAM as the blog topic, how about that
ohmy godf im writing a lot faster than i thought i would
I'm writing fast because i'm trying to fill the time between now and the announcement of the gam jam limitation/specific theme. uhh i don't have a lot to say... I've had <10 hours of sleep the past 3 days cause im playing minecraft and dead by daylight too much, been going off monster (agan) and my body hurts. dont help that I walked around downtown for like 5 miles late at night. i gotta give me body care and respect, it's the only 1 I got. amen
so i gotta get that in order. but I'm planning on taking a shower as soon as the clock strikes twelve, and hitting the hay right after.
here's ur quick little comic, i dont have any ideas so if its crap sorry but i did it in 15 minutes and in that 15 minutes I thought of the comic then drew it with my mouse so I appreciate slack plz plzplzzplzplzplzpzl
