I kind of fell off with the whole blog thing already, eh? I’ll probably just do it this way where I pop in every so often and talk about the highlights of the week. Seems a little less cumbersome.
For this entry I’m gonna talk about the show my band just played, being on the radio, and mail day/a cool ass gaming system I’ve been spending a lot of time with.
Let’s start with…
✖️Mail Day and the K36!✖️
So you’ll come to learn that I very much buy myself a “little treat” a little too often. Buying things makes the happy chemicals go BRRRRRR. Anyway, I bought myself a skeleton sweater and it did not disappoint. It really hold the essence of summer 2007. When I was 12, and would rather sweat to death than look lame and not emo.
Of course I had to pair it with my neon Suicide Silence shirt.
Next up is the K36! So it’s this really dope game boy looking game console with 13,000, yes THOUSAND, games on it from PlayStation, Sega, Nintendo, etc. About 20 different systems run on this thing. (N64 is hit or miss, that’s my only complaint.) I’ve been basically living on this thing in my spare time.
So far I’ve been cycling through Crash Bandicoot 2, Crash Bash, and Brother Bear on the GBA. Don’t judge me for that last one lmao. It gets worse. I have Hamtaro favourited to play later. And Bratz: Rock Angels, because obviously I am a rock angel. (Oh god, shoot me, Lmao.)
✖️New Anthem @ Little Beasts Brewery✖️
So this was probably the best show we’ve played as a band so far, in my opinion. Not necessarily in terms of how well we played, but because of the energy in the room.
At first we were a bit concerned cause the drive there from our hometown to the city it was in was littered with traffic and we were running way behind schedule. But luckily, everyone was. So they pushed back the show a little bit.
Then I find out the bass cab I’m borrowing is quarter inch only. My head only takes Speak-On. But again luckily the rig that was already up there was the venues and I was free to use that head instead. (It would have been great to know this before the show. This is we don’t trust vocalists. Lmao.)
But once we kicked into the set, it was great. We played a brand new cover and didn’t fuck it up. So that’a a special kind of awesome. People were actually singing along. Which hasn’t happened yet as far as I know. And they wanted an encore with a song we cut from the set. It felt pretty good.
I’m always SUPER nervous before shows. I get really bad stage fright. There was even a show last summer that I threw up before, I was that nervous. But shows like these where the crowd is warm and welcoming and engaged in the performance makes all of that worth it. It makes me feel like I actually belong up there. And you can SEE that in the performance as well.
You can always tell when a crowd is a good crowd or a tough crowd by the way the artist preforms. We feed off of you, and vice versa.
After our set, we hung out and watched the other bands on the bill. The venue itself was cool as fuck. It’s a brewery so obviously it’s got that vibe. But they had a vendor there selling hand made horror products. The take out boxes were Halloween themed, so that won me over. The beer was reasonably priced which is always great. I waited til after however, to have my own 3 and 1/2 shot rum and coke, haha. So I can’t attest to how good the beer was. But people seemed to like it. They also had a section FULL of board games and toys. As you can see, I had some fun with that.
I am a simple man. I see toys, I play with toys. Lmao. Me and my vocalist had a grand ol’ time playing Jenga. (I won both times, fyi.) after that we went home, I booted up my aforementioned K36, and called it a “night” around 5AM.
✖️Being On The Radio✖️
This is gonna be a short little blurb, but it was super cool so I had to include it. My band was on a massive local radio station on their section called “Garage To Glory.” It’s the largest rock station in our area so it was pretty exciting. It was wild to hear the DJ I hear all the time in the car talk about us.
