Miasma In Hellenic Polytheism (I Think It's Stupid)

I have been fighting for my life in TikTok comment sections because I, as a Dionysus devotee, committed the horrible crime of using blood in an offering (it was an art piece). I've had a ton of people all tell me "Research miasma in Greek religion" "research miasma" miasma miasma miasma.

Well guess what? I did! And I think it's stupid and outdated.

Miasma was basically the idea that humans and our bodily fluids are dirty and tainted, so they shouldn't touch the gods. Except, Dionysus has accepted blood offerings and sacrifices (From me personally and historically speaking) and many gods/goddesses except sex and self pleasure (acts that involve quite a few bodily fluids) as offerings or devotional acts.

Guess what, most religious traditions and rituals were manmade. I fully believe that the miasma concept was created by man and the gods don't actually give a fuck.

There's also the idea that giving blood to the gods means you think you are on the same level as them, which is not cool. But I think that's also bullshit. I view giving blood as giving someone a piece of yourself. That's why I used it in an offering for Dionysus. I have devoted myself and my craft to him and gave him a piece of myself, my very essence, to prove that. As always, INTENT MATTERS! If you give blood with the intent that you are one the same level as literal gods, THAT'S NOT COOL!

But in the end, I fully believe that your relationship with the Gods is very personal. Do what feels right to you. And yeah sometimes it's nice to have a guide. But in the end it's you and your Gods.

If you want to know whether a god will accept something as an offering, JUST ASK! You don't need some rando on TikTok to tell you that. THEY DON'T SPEAK FOR YOUR GODS!

You will always know what is best for you. Use your intuition, or hell divination exists for a reason, and it will guide you to what is right and proper.

Miasma isn't the idea that humans and bodily fluids are dirty and tainted. Many people confuse Miasma with lyma. I am not really educated on Dionysus. What do you mean he historically accepted blood offerings and sacrifices?

Here are some resources I have found about blood offerings, mostly in regards to Dionysus :]

“...Dionysus’ rites were inextricably linked to the cycle of life and death. His maenads, or female followers, engaged in blood offerings to feed the dead, cementing his role as a communicant between the living and the deceased…”

I've seen the above repeated on numerous websites

“Some ancient texts hint at the possibility that early Dionysian rites involved human sacrifice, especially in its more archaic forms. This would later evolve into more symbolic or theatrical representations, but the early connotations of blood, chaos, and transformation remain a key part of the Dionysian mythos.”

“For Dionysus is the god of wet fertility (wine, blood, milk, honey, semen)”

“Nonetheless, there is a precedent from ancient times, the sacrifice of animals was supported by the community at large. In very antique times, there were even instances of human sacrifice…”
