I really liked it, I think the punk rock aspect of the movie was my favorite part. I liked how they didn't skimp with Patty and Simon doing stupid stuff because "it's a movie and we want it to keep a pg-13 rating" or something. It's true to what it is, and it does what it does very well.
I also liked how it was set sometime in the late 80s to 90s. I'm not sure if this is because of Stranger Things or not, but either way, I'm rocking with it. It adds a very cool vibe to the whole movie, like it's an old person thinking about their life or something.
I kind of didn't like the awkward talking part in the alley at the beginning, before Simon first goes to Patty's house, but that kinda thing never really happened again. And, at the beginning, I feel like Kyle Gallner, (Simon) was getting used to acting as Simon in the beginning, but, like the awkward camerawork, it all got ironed out in the end. I don't really have any complaints about Emily Skeggs' acting, she did phenomenal. I didn't love how much swearing there was, it felt a bit unrealistic, but considering it was the 80s, (I wasn't there for the 80s but who cares it's my post) it seems realistic enough.
Overall, I give it a 9.5/10. I took some points off because I almost wanted to stop watching, because of the awkward sounding dialogue. I thought the whole movie would be like that, even though it wasn't. Besides that, it's the perfect movie for any teenager. I really enjoyed the message that the world can change, but you don't have to. This is shown through the fact that every house Simon goes to is way fancy, and even Simon's family is successful, but he's just coasting through life. The music featured in the movie brings it all together too.
sorry about the more federal post, i just loved the movie, and also happen to like english class, so i wrote a review
