Bad Horror Movie Rec - "Waxwork II: Lost in Time"

Waxwork II: Lost in Time

(1992)

The long-awaited sequel to the first, this movie does not disappoint in doing all the things I'd expect a second Waxwork to do. It introduced a new mechanic that makes very little logical sense, has a Bruce Campbell celebrity cameo, and has a highly questionable ending. If you hadn't gathered this from the title of the movie, the new mechanic is time travel. Mark and Sarah must embark on another adventure through multiple settings, this time with the goal of gathering evidence to prevent Sarah from being incarcerated. But don't worry about that too much, because they pretty much discard the idea by the end. It was all for nothing, but who cares? This is a movie's movie and it pays homage to Nosferatu, Jack the Ripper, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Frankenstein, Godzilla, The Haunting, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Dawn of the Dead, Alien, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and quite a few more. It takes itself even less seriously than the first, and I had a pretty fun time watching it with a buddy of mine. Fully recommend as a double feature with the first. Ridiculous lines, BDSM every which way, awful vaguely European accents, and a time-hopping swordfight.
