Welcome back to Renviews (Ren Reviews)!
March 31, 2025: Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022) !
Renviews won't assign numerical ratings to media nor individual parts of it. I'm just here to get my thoughts out about something I enjoyed! (Or otherwise.) Spoilers abound!
♡
I'm writing this entry a few days after I rewatched the movie for what I believe to be the fourth time. After my first viewing, each subsequent one I've had now was me dragging at least one other person in to suffer with me.
And I mean that in the best way possible! Everything Everywhere All at Once is genuinely one of my favorite movies of all time and I can't believe three years have already passed since its release.
This time around, I grabbed two friends and made them watch the movie late at night, and we were all just bawling by the end. That makes the movie undefeated in making me cry whenever I see it. It turned April 1st by the time it was over, and we sure did feel like April Fools.
I'll admit, I'm a bit glad that the movie is still just as impactful as I remember it being. It can be a little anxiety-inducing thinking that maybe a movie that has made you sob several times won't do the same to someone you show it to. Luckily (or not so luckily to the people I've forced to watch with me), it still packs the same emotional punch as ever.
I'm not even sure if I'm able to adequately express my thoughts and feelings on the film. There's so much, and yet it all feels so right. Except the papercut scene... Admittedly I still have to look away whenever it comes up.
The themes of generational trauma are obvious, but as a second-generation Asian American, it really hits hard for me. I might have to come back with more thoughts later if it comes to me haha
This movie is so hard to talk about adequately... Doesn't help that I'm sleep deprived...
Wonderful Renview!
