not supporting "endo systems" is not the same as fake claiming (but there is a thin line)

to understand the issue you need to know what a system is

a system is what happens when a child experiences enough trauma before the ages of 7 - 10 (when the personality begins to solidify). we are all born with our personality split into "parts". in a normal developing brain, these parts will come together to form a single "personality", the individual. however, when a young child experiences ongoing trauma, these parts fail to join. they stay separate. some even split into further pieces. this is where alters come from. depending on the severity, these can be fully separate "personalities" which can take control over the brain and body, as in DID (dissociative identity disorder, formerly known as multiple personality disorder) and OSDD (other specified dissociative disorder)-1b; or only emotional fragments which can cause severe mood swings and emotional amnesia, as in OSDD-1a. not everybody with dissociative disorders experiences amnesia (short- or long-term memory loss) but many do

okay. what is an "endo(genic) system"? basically, a "system" that has formed without trauma. AKA, impossible

so what might an "endo system" actually be experiencing?

1) it's not abnormal for anybody, but especially maladjusted people (ie those who experienced less severe/not ongoing trauma) to create sort of "NPCs" in the brain to talk to. this is especially evident with those who maladaptive daydream. these NPCs can be real people, fictional characters, anything really. you might be able to interact with them in your head, but the big difference is that, unlike alters, you fully control these NPCs, and they cannot take over the brain/body. their emotions come from you. their responses are yours, even if its subconscious. it's a lot like having an imaginary friend. this is nothing to be ashamed of and can be a perfectly acceptable coping mechanism

2) severe BPD (borderline personality disoder) can cause what are called "emotional parts". these are not separate alters, but fragments which may each hold a specific emotion. somebody with severe BPD may feel completely different during a split, ie unreasonably angry or out of control, but these fragments are not fully formed, individual parts. these cannot form into separate alters (unless you also have DID/OSDD)

3) there is a distinct possibility that those who claim to be a system without having trauma, actually have DID/OSDD and just dont remember the trauma that caused it. and, big surprise! that is literally why these disorders form— to protect us from remembering these horrible things. alters are quite literally a life saving interjection. without compartimentalizing these traumas, its likely that we would not have survived thru childhood. yes, it is that serious

and because it is that fucking serious, that's why i don't support those who claim to be a system without trauma. i DO NOT fake claim because of point 3 above, but the fact that there are people who make light of such a serious, life changing set of disorders, acting like all you have to do to become "plural" is like, astral project or some bs like that... it's insulting

if you genuinely believe that you are a system but you don't remember the trauma, or like in my case, you remember some of it but don't think your trauma was "bad enough", this is for you:
  • emotional and physical neglect are very much traumatizing
  • witnessing ongoing abuse without being directly abused yourself is traumatizing
  • an unstable home life (whether youre homeless, go hungry the majority of the time, bounce between fosters, etc) is traumatizing
  • being raised around addicts (drugs or alcohol or whatever) can be traumatizing
  • being lgbt or any sort of minority and raised by bigots is traumatizing
  • even religion can be traumatizing
  • you dont have to have been beaten and/or raped repeatedly to develop a dissociative disorder
if you went thru any of the above throughout your childhood (before age 7 - 10) there is a good chance you could have a dissociative disorder

a diagnosis of DID/OSDD requires only two separate identities/parts. however, many people have more parts. some, as with polyfragmanted dissociatives, can have hundreds of parts, most of which are usually emotional fragments. and of course, those who have chosen the "final fusion" (integration of all alters) recovery route may not have any separate parts any longer

if you're interested in learning more, here are just a couple resources ^_^ (the second one has a page on malingering which is interesting so do check it out. just dont use it as a way to fake-claim, thats clearly not what this blog is for)

I know basically nothing about systems, so I thank you for explaining them (and what endo systems are too) :3
