The Nintendo Switch 2 arrives as the successor to one of the most beloved consoles of all time, with the mission of correcting some of the limitations that the original Switch left behind.
Let’s be honest, the first console wasn’t perfect. The battery didn’t last long enough in handheld mode, the screen didn’t have the best resolution for certain games, and the graphic performance left something to be desired when compared to other more powerful consoles.
Now, with the Switch 2, Nintendo has listened to the fans. The new console promises to improve all of that: better battery life, a sharper screen, and graphic performance that will finally meet expectations.
Technical Features
First of all, let’s list the technical improvements of the console, which are certainly a smart move:
➣ Screen: 7.9 inches, 1080p in handheld mode, and 4K HDR when docked.
➣ Storage: 256 GB of internal storage, expandable with microSD Express.
➣ Joy-Con 2: New controllers with mouse function for greater precision in games.
➣ Battery: Improved battery life for longer gaming sessions.
New Accessories
The new Pro Controller comes with an improved version, specially designed for those who prefer a more traditional experience. This controller includes an audio connector and additional buttons on the back for more precise and customized control.
Also announced was the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera, which opens up a range of possibilities for integrating video calls and new forms of interaction in compatible games. Imagine being able to see and talk to your friends while playing!
Online Function: Improved Connectivity
Nintendo has taken an important step in the world of connectivity. GameChat is a new feature that allows players to communicate via voice chat and video chat, perfect for coordinating strategies in multiplayer games or just chatting while playing. This feature will be free until March 2026, after which it will require a subscription to the Nintendo Switch Online service.
Game Catalog: Exclusive and Remastered Titles
The most exciting part of the conference: the games! Here are some of the highlights:
➣ Mario Kart World: The beloved racing franchise returns with a new installment that introduces an open world and innovative mechanics. It will be available from the console’s launch!
➣ Donkey Kong Bananza: The beloved Donkey Kong returns with a partially open world, offering a fresh but nostalgic experience, where, yes, we’ll see him destroy things!
➣ The Duskbloods: A new IP from FromSoftware, exclusive to Switch 2, with a Victorian and steampunk aesthetic. Undoubtedly one of the surprises for many.
➣ Elden Ring Tarnished Edition: A complete version of one of the most acclaimed games of the past generation, with the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion included.
➣ Kirby AirRiders: Kirby returns in the air!
Additionally, backward compatibility will be one of the strong points of this console, as users will be able to play almost all Nintendo Switch titles, as well as classic GameCube games like The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and F-Zero GX, through Nintendo Switch Online.
Price and Availability: Accessibility and Value
The Nintendo Switch 2 will have a launch price of $449.99 USD. Pre-orders will begin on April 8, 2025, and pre-launch events are scheduled worldwide.

Nintendo Switch 2
Now, while it's true that the console has improved significantly, one thing that seemed quite off to me is that many of the new mechanics, like game compatibility, require extra payments. Aside from that, with the number of exclusive games and, thanks to it being a portable console, I believe it will regain popularity among the public.
