Some of my all time fav movies along with some that r probs some of the best movies ever known is probs blue velvet, gregg araki's teenage apocalypse trilogy, y tu mama tambien, aftersun, end of evangelion, rocky horror picture show, beautiful boy, lego batman movie (obvious choice), call me by your name (luca i love you), manchester by the sea, smiley face, mysterious skin, brokeback mountain, kids, paris is burning, mala noche, and meeting the man: james baldwin in paris.
Gregg Araki's visuals are at times so colorful but insane and i can really appreciate that. he has such a distinctive style that its easy to tell just by a frame that its one of his works. im super excited for his upcoming movie, 'I want your sex'. this is just kinda a rant about how much i love Gregg Araki but the set designs are also some of the best ive ever seen, i make my friends watch at least nowhere if i make them watch one of his movies. but one of the best parts of his movies have got to be his soundtracks. nowhere (1997) has an insane one with features from radiohead, hole, suede, slowdive, lush, curve, catherine wheel, massive attack, and more. it all feels like its a fever dream jumping out of ur screen, its just great, it also offers insight into the queer scene in L.A for both totally f***ed up and nowhere and also offers insight on things such as aids from these queer characters. totally f***ed up is especially great for this because of the home recording style it has it offers a more intimate perspective into the characters wants and fears and feelings overall to the people and environment around them (which is a difficult one to navigate as a queer individual, some of the characters struggle with rejection from family and tend to be in unsafe situations) i can not say this enough but WATCH HIS TRILOGY AND UR LIFE WILL BE CHANGED!!!!
