Serial Experiments Lain Episode 9 Reaction
Aliens? I didn't expect that. But I guess that wasn't the point. For a few minutes there I thought the implication was going to be that Lain was an alien... But no. She's just a god created with, by, or alongside the Wired. It seems clear now that she was planted in her family. What was the purpose, though? Why does the non-Wired Lain have to exist at all, if the Wired Lain has always existed, as long as the Wired has been around?
Maybe the Knights aren't so bad, after all, if their purpose is truly to seek the one truth. Taro is a sympathetic character. He hardly seems a villain. So, Taro being a sort of junior Knight makes it less likely the Knights are evil. If they seek the truth -- well, that is what Lain is certainly looking for these past two episodes.
I'm not sure what was being implied by the history lesson interludes in this episode... If there is a consciousness created by all of humanity being connected together on the Wired, is that super-consciousness... Lain? Is that why she is a god? But that doesn't fit in with her having always been on the Wired. "No matter where you go, everyone is always connected," Lain said back in the second episode. Perhaps now they are explaining how that's true... Maybe.
I don't see what real-Lain existing accomplishes. Maybe she was even created by Wired Lain (or at her direction) so that Wired Lain could have a body? Apparently, it's only at Club Cyberia that Wired Lain can directly appear in flesh form. So using that chip or whatever it was would have erased the memories of the real Lain, maybe? Thus allowing Wired Lain to take over fully? Maybe?
