As it is Autism Acceptance Month, here are some reminders.
- Autism is a spectrum. It's different for everyone who has it.
- Listen to Actually Autistic people. Don't speak over them.
- Don't support Autism Speaks. Support Autistic Self Advocacy Network or Autistic Women & Nonbinary Network instead. Here's a blog post with more good and bad charities.
- Do not use puzzle pieces. Use the infinity symbol instead.
- Do not light it up blue. Light it up red or yellow instead.
- "Asperger's" is a dead term and should not be used.
- "Functioning" labels are harmful.
- Stop using the "R-E-E-E" sound as it is offensive.
- Self-diagnosis is valid.
- BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ Autistic people are valid.
- Support Autistic artists, authors, and creators.
- Support Autistic people year round.
