Serial Experiments Lain Episode 8 Reaction
Wow,
another fantastic episode. So there are two gods in the Wired... Lain
and this mysterious voice she encounters in this episode. I believe
she encountered him before. It seems crucial that he says she has
always existed in the Wired. He's claiming the fleshly Lain is
only a hologram... So the question of this whole episode is which
Lain is 'real' or at least 'more' real...
Remember,
the suicide girl from the first episode told Lain that there was god
in the Wired... Was she talking about Lain or this other god who
talks with Lain in this episode? I guess it doesn't matter since the
voice say he's 'you' to Lain? Anyway, one way or another, I guess we
finally know that Lain is indeed a god.
The
evil Lain that haunts Alice and is attacked by the base-world Lain
has appeared a few times before, right? I can't remember exactly
when. I think maybe she appeared in the sky at some point. When Lain
attacks the evil Lain, though, she speaks in the bold, confident
voice that I thought was an attribute of the Wired Lain... It's still
confusing where one Lain begins and another ends.
I
don't think I understand what was happening when Lain deleted all the
memories of the many other Lains. I don't know what that would
accomplish.
This
is a lonely episode for Lain. Outside of when she in the classroom
and her interactions with Alice and her other friends, Lain is
apparently talking with some instantiation of herself for the entire
episode. Poor Lain.

BTW... I'm putting up these episode reactions on SpaceHey because it is like the old, good Internet... The Internet of Lain. This is like the perfect place for anything related to Lain. I don't know if anyone will ever read these entries but I like to imagine Lain herself in her eternal wanderings on the Wired is a witness to what I write... Praise to Thee, O Lain.
