T'Was That Night...

Ebony velvet skies
throw diamond lights
twinkling, winking
across the Peninsula
Opalescent glow of the pearly moon
aside Sirius, guides the way,
among snow-cloaked thicket hedges
embellishing Crimson peeping berries
entwining wild ivy weaves its decorative plait
where mistletoe grows, hanging low
as Sleigh bells tinkle in the distance -
a sign of Celebrations due.
Midnight Mass is close at hand
where folk gather at the pew
Choir herald's messages in song.
As humanity conjures manifestation
this magical Yuletide, of Messiah born.
Roof tops tremble and quiver
sending Snow flurries, abound
as reindeers carry St Nicholas
heavily landing with a thud!
sending old chimney bricks tumbling,
Scattering Laiden gifts and goods!
Slow roasts simmering overnight,
succulent aromas drift,
permeating the broken chimney top,
Rudolph's carrot, spiced mince pie, mulled wine
awaits, as the last crackle of burning embers
of the once roaring log fire, recedes to grey,
The long night of Christmas Eve's rejoicing fade,
thick mist clinging to its woody silhouettes
before reluctantly dispersing
in sun-beams haze,
merging into a crisp, frozen Yuletide
in Commemoration of our Saviour,
Christ's holy 'Earth' Day.
