i wanna preface this by saying i love the scene and care for it deeply, it has cared for me and helped me through so much and just been a pillar of support
the hardcore punk scene in houston is kind of fucked rn, i know hardcore is kind of focused around violence but its getting to the point where the only kind of new bands coming out are hardcore or hardcore adjacent, these bands are no longer saying anything at all, they are simply talking about death or hurting the person next to you. i think people are forgetting the values and ideas of punk and they're hurting their own scene because of it

this kinda soundz like the socal hxc scene, im not from socal & have never been 2 a show down there but i have friendz who do & have been + ive seen postz online & it soundz like hell 0-o lotz of weird drama (lol), the pitz do not look safe & based on sum of the callout postz ive seen, the ppl dont sound very safe either T0T i think there tendz 2 b a lot of toxic masculinity or like "macho"-ness in hardcore & that rlly needz 2b addressed. & i agree with what u said, hardcore derivez from punk & having/upholding punk valuez in hardcore iz crucial
yea i think that may unfortunately be the fate of every hardcore scene tbh. i think the pits are supposed 2 b unsafe/unwelcoming bc of the nature of hardcore being a more extreme version of punk but the way people act in it is horrible. ive seen people crowd dive on people half their size and people target smalller girls, i personally have seen a girl carried out in a strecher because of a dude targeting her. the scene (here at least) seems to have a mentallity of "if you can't handle the pit stay out of it" as if the people outside of the pit arent getting hit and targeted too! the scene drama is insane too, im glad u mentioned that bc i wouldve completely forgotten about it, it's so normal now i feel like no one likes anyone in this scene. i kind of used to use hardcore and punk scenes 2 escape highschool but it feels like a more intense highschool lol

yea i think sum ppl use the pit as a sort of excuse 2 straight up punch ppl for no reason lol, and targeting ppl outside of the pit iz rlly messed up, theyre *outside* the pit for a reason !! moshing iz not a mandatory thing and if they want 2 join in, they can do so when they feel ready & if they want 2. & yeah hardcore iz p much extreme punk but just bc itz "extreme" doesnt mean basic safety & decency towardz otherz should go out the window lol (/nm)
norcal hxc scene iz much more tolerable, there r "momentz" but rarely

yea the scene has gotten soooo bad its like insane, i wish the people with more of a voice in the scene said something but they kind of just go "eh i guess we gotta make hardcore music now" and switch they're entire genre! its happened w two of the punkier bands i liked and its kind of horrible tbh
