i've been stuck in a 9-5 for fucking everrrrr i am really getting bored of being an adult but also i love it but also dangg i wish i had this kinda site when i was actually a lil emo gremlin, it's making me feel some kinda nostalgia that i never actually experienced???? i was stuck without any friends with similar interest throughout my life and chased them online but never really found anyone in my vibe at that time and i just feel like i missed out on a LOT
does anyone feel the same? or like, is anyone on this website for the same kinda reason? we can be friends defo!!

For me I “grew up” on deviantart (never used MySpace) but my main pull to this site besides the nostalgia for plain old forums is that every site seems to be inundated with ads and toxic people/in groups that have nothing better to do with their time than to harass people… like tumblr used to be my “safe place” online and now it’s like every other post is some sort of discourse and there’s ads between like every post and I just can’t take it anymore…
Trying to find friends irl has always been a problem for me and lately it’s gotten more and more dangerous to do so (at least in my area) and on top of that I had history with someone who’s involved in my local queer scene and I really don’t want to have to deal with the fallout/anguish/trauma of running into them again.
So yeah. Long story short, nostalgia/potential for friends/no ads.
literally!! i resonated with everything you said and i think you word things quite nicely <3 to be fair this isn't my usual style of typing at all, this all is i just kinda wanna try this out because i've always been very grammatical about my english, because i grew up with a different language and wanted to make my english as perfect as possible, now that i'm here, i decided to finally drop it and type like i alwayyyys wanted to type as a teen! this is my reason on being here, just kinda digging into what i've missed out on, but yeah, the lack of random ads EVERYWHERE and every website asking me if i can consent to the cookies is sososo overwhelming >< i cannot get enough of how simple this site is and how oldschool it looks, yet with how well you can decorate everything, and there are nice people here <3 thank you for adding me, means lots!

No problem! I’m glad to find someone who relates :3 The language thing must be rough, I’m US based with English being my first language and I write more like how I speak in person haha… I used to write a lot when I was younger but I’ve never been able to wrap my head around the “mechanics” of grammar lol (even within English). But yeah, glad this is a place where you can talk how you like!

i'm from a smaller country in Europe, our language is one of the hardest to learn, and i've been learning English ever since i was like... 5? and so i developed a liking to the language itself and always have been careful to pronounce everything right because i wanted to be so good that i could one day meet people who speak English as well and just understand them with no issues. many years later, and i feel like English is easier to use when expressing myself, i have many friends from different countries around me, one from a neighbor country, and we all speak English fluently and are very proud of one another, despite the accents and minor mistakes. pretty rad!

It’s interesting to get your perspective, a lot of people I’ve seen online who have English as a second language seem to be frustrated about it (some more than others). Actually you’re the first person I’ve come across who has been excited about it!
Personally I wish that here in the US our schools would teach Spanish to everyone since we have so many Spanish speakers here, but only some schools offer it and not until much later (like not till middle school or sometimes even high school). And now with everything happening here, I feel like second languages are going to be taught even less…

yeah, that's actually a valid reason for why you'd like Spanish as an option there! for us, English is mandatory because the whole world basically speaks it, but we also get a third language: it's either German or Russian, and people usually choose German. let me tell you i was learning that language for 8 years and i still don't know anything but a few words, it's hard! that's why i love English. it's super easy to me, because i got it in my brain very soon and overall English seems like an easy language to learn :D
