Korean food on Wednesday nights

My boyfriend and I are adventurers... in theory. We love watching films together, we love cooking together, we love japanese foods, vietnamese foods, indonesian, chinese, italian, etc. But we've been so hectic lately that it seems like it's hard to find the time to date or even places that won't break our wallets.

So, on a wednesday night, after he got back from his work trip, we were hanging out as usual at my place. The air was humid, the ac was broken, and we were positively sweating out of our asses. I had binged watched season 4 of SATC the previous day, and talked all about it after hearing all about his trip. Then it came upon me that the last time we went on a date was a double date, and with no time for us. I pulled out some clothes for the both of us and dragged us out of the door.

Maybe watching SATC made me feel like I needed to head out; watching girls go out and enjoy their lives makes me want to go out and enjoy my life. But then again we are students with limited bank, and they're fully grown women with stable finances. So there we were, walking down the road trying to find a cool place with something new and affordable. That's when we spotted it: An authentic Korean Restaurant hidden in the nook of an alleyway. With all the cars zooming about the roads, it's hard to spot the quaint little place. But seeing it gave us a sense of adventure.

It was built to emulate those korean street restaurants you see in K-Dramas; red tarps that functioned as semi-functional walls, foldable stools and tables, bottles of free soju. It felt like I traveled without a passport.

So we set down and the menu was amazing. He and I ordered fried chicken, Jjajangmyeon, Kimchi Fried Rice, and Sundubu Jjigae. And MY GOD was it amazing. Everything looked awesome and authentic, and it smelled good. First that came was the Sundubu Jjigae. It was so hot and spicy (but not too spicy) and the broth just melted in your mouth with umami. The tofu and eggs were to die for! Then came the Fried Rice (my boyfriend's dish). It was unfortunately underwhelming and the portions were abysmal. Then my Jjajangmyeon noodles, this was a damn jackpot! I hadn't had black bean noodles in a while and this was good. It was thick and creamy, with the taste of garlic kind of overpowering the beans, but it was alright. There were marinated chicken skin too in the mix and boy that was juicy! Then came last were the fried chicken! I, always struggling with spice, struggled to eat it. But that was even juicier and tastier than the previous dish. The sauce just dripped down and marinated the chicken beautifully, harmonizing with the already deliciously fried chicken. Safe to say that my boyfriend and I both were satisfied, and we left with our bellies full.
