Serial Experiments Lain Episode 7 Reaction

Serial Experiments Lain Episode 7 Reaction

What a great episode. One of the best so far in the show. We learned a lot. It seems like Lain is being possessed... Or something along those lines. Lain's guardians (that's what I'm calling them) implies that Lain is a plant in her own family. This would fit with her father seemingly leading her onto the Wired -- why did he buy her such a high-powered Navi, after all? Perhaps she's an experiment -- that would tie in with the title of the series. I guess she had to be for the Wired Lain to come into existence, somehow? But that Lain does have a separate existence, anyhow. Did the Wired Lain not exist even on the Wired until Lain joined the Wired?

The other big thing we learned is that the Knights are bad. Though, of course, Lain's guardians could be lying. If they aren't, then the Knights, who are some sort of religion, presumably worship the Wired Lain. Or think she is the means to their goals. Do they want to merge reality and the Wired? Is that their purpose?

Speaking of reality and the Wired, I don't know what the man who was killed was accomplishing by walking around outside while still in the Wired... It seems backwards. Surely the accomplishment would be to traverse the real world from the Wired, rather than the reverse. One way or another, it was fascinating that it was a mother who was involved in this slaying. Her being a villain was foreshadowed in the episode by her flirtation with the young delivery man. This is another example of sexuality being shown in a negative light in the series.
