Monster High Rant

I grew up on monster high and some of my favorite childhood dolls were wave one, I've loved monster high my entire life and still do. What I DON'T love is some parts of the fandom. When Monster High had to reboot because sales were low, and it wasn't doing well in 2016 people threw a hissy fit, and they still hate it now. Now the same thing is happening with G3. I don't understand why people can't comprehend that the newer Monster High reboots aren't for us. 

The reboots were so the brand could better cater towards kids of that time period, not collectors or older fans in general. G2 was meant to appeal to children, as is G3. Monster High realized that it wasn't doing as well as it could've done in G1, and that's okay. We loved G1 for what it was, but a lot of people didn't. In order to survive, the brand had to grow and change with time.

G3 is going over extremely well with kids now, and I think we should be happy Mattel even PRODUCES Monster High anymore. Every day I bring a different Monster High doll out with me, oftentimes a G3 doll, and I can't count how many times a little kid has recognized it and talked to me about their own Monster High dolls and love for the show.  

We also have to recognize that G3 has done so much better in terms of cultural representation, queer representation, and body positivity. The old Monster High encouraged uniqueness and individuality, but all the dolls had the exact same body type, and they never actually included minorities in the show. Even black characters had white voice actors, and need I bring up Jinafire Long's background music? They even made an entire episode about Twyla being autistic and NEVER said anything negative about it. As an autistic person, that would've been LIFE CHANGING for my self-esteem in childhood. Autism was either never mentioned or painted as this horrible tragedy in shows I watched as a kid (Ex: Girl Meets World). 

Basically, you don't have to like G3, but you have to realize how beneficial having these types of representation is going to be to kids in the long run. It's not for us, it's for them. Ive had far too many arguments with people who act like G3 existing is going to erase all the old G1 dolls and movies from existance and ruin our childhoods.
