Today In class, a classmate explained how he felt bad for owning a Nokia smartphone as all his friends had iphones and it just made me think about how stupid that is??? I personally use a nokia phone daily, not a smartphone but a dumphone/ flip phone and to be honest I dont feel any shame in that?? in fact it makes me feel like a badass, like some 2000s Diva. but it annoys me to think there was a time when having a phone like that was cool but now other people assume its a burner phone for drug dealing like what the fuck??
And I've both heard and seen how easily iphone screens break and become obsolete due to updates so you would buy a new one and it's confusing?? why is something so expensive so not durable?? I doubt apple would go out of business for that. I mean I get it, it's probably to make more money but paying for an item that's going to break fast just because it has a name or logo on it rather than buying something with an unpopular brand for half the price but is durable is just????? why??? to be effing "cool"?????
If your friends are making you feel bad for not having a certain thing then I feel they aren't really friends??? and maybe try therapy for the insecurity issues because buying whatevers trendy aint fixin that (at least not in the long term)??
This isn't just about phones either, name brand clothes are like this too a lot of the time. Go to any car museum and you will without a doubt find a 50 buck shirt that has the texture of toilet paper and a low quality jpeg of the car companys logo printed on it that will fade away completely after 4 washes which will then either continue to be used as a rag for scrubbing floors or be thrown out (IM LOOKING AT YOU BMW!!!)
(at that point just buy a blank shirt and get the desired design printed on it by a specialised printing company for like 14 bucks, way cheaper, more durable, supporting local businesses and genuinely no one will be able to tell if its genuine merch or not.)
Is it to flaunt money?? if so that's not in my opinion proving ur cool or anything it just makes me think " dam this person loves landfills ew "
like holy shittt the saying " out of sight out of mind " is something that i kinda hate? influencers doing like 500 dollar shien hauls every month is fucking insane. Imagine if it was like with cigarette packs where on the box it would show you like a gruesome image of the bad affects of smoking but do that with websites, have em be FULLL of pictures of effing landfills PLEASE I WANT THRIFT STORES TO HAVE MORE QUALITY CLOTHING!!!
I'm not hating on people who buy from shien,i personally dont buy from them but i understand if it's a few items and because it's cheap but a 500 dollar haul is completely different.
tldr: frustrated guy on the internet talks about how he hates landfills
Thanks for reading, everything I said here is just my opinion, no need to flame me in the comments alright?
