Have we gotten too comfortable with Internet anonymity?

The Internet is a fascinating place, you can put on a mask and say things without people linking it to you. But unfortunately, I believe that we have gone too far with it. But to clarify things, I do use a slight anonymity myself. Under the alias "Mido", which is obviously not my name. But there are many people who don't use anonymity to do normal things, in fact some use it for creepy and downright horrible reasons. A good example of this are confession accounts, which I have mentioned in a previous blog of mine. Where a person could confess something to another person in promise of secrecy and anonymity, and then the account will post it on their blogs. But that means whoever wrote the confession can write anything they want, whether it be lighthearted or creepy. And no one will have a clue on who they are, or if the story is true. But either way, they take advantage of their anonymity. But another example I can use is cyber bullying itself, we as a society use anonymity to comment things on other people's content. Yet because of that, folks tend to spread hate since they know that no one will know who's behind the screen. Which honestly scares me, because I have seen a good few of my friends get harassed by people who they couldn't identify. They took advantage of the fact no one would know who they were, and they used it for malicious reasons. Now I'm not saying get rid of anonymity, because it's basically impossible without getting rid of Internet. What I'm saying is more of a warning than anything, because there's nothing many of us can do. There's no way to track down who these people are without ip logging and/or doxxing, which I myself am heavily against. But what I can do is remind you all to stay safe when you scroll through the Internet, because you never know what people will use their anonymity for next. If you have anything to add or just want to share your thoughts on this matter, don't be afraid to comment it to me. I'll be happy to read your thoughts and maybe even respond to them, stay safe!

You're 100% correct. When people know their words can't be tracked back to them, they get a little meaner. I believe an experiment was actually done regarding this. Where a group of people had to criticize someone, group A was told it was anonymous, and group B was told that the person was able to hear their criticism.

Group A, was a lot meaner in their criticism, while Group B was a little kinder.

I forgot the name of this experiment. when I find it, I'll be sure to come back

Interesting, but yes I do agree that it's most likely that case. It's sad to see it be taken advantage of, it's why I try to be as transparent to you guys as possible while not giving out too much information
