I felt like making a little get to know me post to pin at the top of my page. So I copied a bunch of random questions to answer and these are them! I hope its not to lengthy lol.
Name? Online i go by ally, as for my real name, that's a secret I'll never tell ;)
Are you named after anyone? Yes! I was named after my great bubbie who fled Austria in the 1930s with her children right before the Nazi’s invaded. If it wasn't for her escaping when she did, my family probably wouldn't be alive, so thank you bubbie for having the courage to leave when you did.
Age/Sign? I'm 20, turning 21 this may. May Gemini's RISE.
Hair/eye color? My eyes are hazel, and my hair is long brown and curly.
How tall are you? I'm 5'3 on paper but everyone thinks I'm shorter
Your heritage? I'm Jewish, i don't know many specifics aside from great grandparents that are from europe.
3. Do you have any siblings? Yes, I have an older brother. We’re 10 years, 1 month, 1 day, and ten hours apart. (I love telling people that) I love him very much.
4. Where did you grow up? New York City baby. Born and raised. Unfortunately gentrification and many other factors have made nyc uninhabitable for the people from here so I'm moving soon. It's not ideal, in fact its very scary for me leaving what's considered a relatively safe state during the current political climate. But the hard truth is, my family and I can't afford it.
Where did you go to college? I'm a college dropout lol. There's a much longer story to this but in short, college was just not for me, not now anyways. Maybe my whole life will pivot in 10 years and I'll go back idk.
Do you have any pets? I'm actually in possession of the world's sassiest boy cat that ever lived. I found him under an abandoned house in the sixth grade. We didn't get along at first. He was extremely rambunctious in his kitten years and he would deadass attack me. He was like my cat from hell, but he grew out of that and we’ve been besties ever since. I've also had 2 dogs!
What are you afraid of? I'm deathly afraid of snakes, it's actually so severe it's a phobia. But I'm actively trying to work through it with my therapist because it does affect me quite a bit. I'm also afraid of drowning, being home during a home invasion, and Trump somehow outstaying his presidential term.
Favorite animal? I adore otters. I was obsessed with the otters at the Bronx zoo as a child. They had an enclosure that was partly underground where you could see them in the water. I could have stayed there for hours watching them swim around. When I got older I learned they had a vicious side but that only made me love them more, cause lowkey…same.
What is your best childhood memory? It was fall of 2009. My mom was cleaning the kitchen with the radio blasting and So What by Pink came over the radio. It had been topping the charts. Perfectly timed with my parents divorce. Mop in hand as a microphone my mom began belting the lyrics. I joined in of course as backup vocals. She’d spent so long trapped in a shitty marriage where she didn’t feel free. Felt she couldn’t be herself, or do things she loved. Listening to her music loud and singing along being one of those things. Being a part of her gaining that back was very wholesome.
What is your favorite holiday? I've BEEN a Halloween girl. I put my birthday on hold in first grade so I could have a Halloween party instead. I dress up every year, and the decorations come down in September. I've been lacking in the dress up department though these last few years ngl.
Who knows you best? My mom, she knows me better than I know myself sometimes. Being an undiagnosed kid on the spectrum my mom always advocated for me, because even though I didn’t have a diagnosis backing me up my mom was so intuitive to my needs and knew I needed more help in school and in general.
Who is the smartest person you ever met? It depends on what kind of smarts we're talking about. Because I know some people who are highly intelligent in school and not in life, or vice versa. But I'd say my brother is the most intelligent person I know because he has a good mix of both. He's a paramedic so he obviously went to school for that, and being a new yorker and a paramedic nonetheless has definitely given him street smarts. I’d say a close second is my sister in law, she's super intelligent, and a total badass.
What do you wish more people understood about you? "Just because my dreams are different than yours doesn't mean they're unimportant" - Meg March. This quote resonates with me so heavily. I wish people wouldn't be so quick to judge or voice their opinions on MY LIFE choices when they are brought up. God forbid someone finds out I'm trying to start my own business..."Oh you'll never be able to do that" "the markets to oversaturated" "you better have a backup" ok...and you better shut your mouth before I do it for you.
What makes you unique? I think my intuition and empathy is a huge part of what makes me unique. Although I'm not sure I'd use the word unique to describe me. Growing up, and even now I've felt outcasted from society because of my differences. But in a lot of ways I really do think I'm just another joe-schmo, nothing special. Anyways, being intuitive has an immense impact on my life, how I live it, and how I interact with others. I'm so heightened in on others emotions, their body language and the energy they give off.
What is one thing that instantly makes your day better? Chocolate. I love chocolate. Give me a handful of Hershey kisses and I'm at your service.
Aside from necessities, what one thing could you not go a day without? Hand Lotion lol. I cannot stand the feeling of dry skin, especially on my hands. Its a sensory nightmare. As a child I would spit into my hands when they felt dry. I know thats so fucking disgusting. But once I realized I could just carry lotion on me I never stopped.
Tell us an embarrassing story. Um me spitting into my hands as a child is pretty fucking embarrassing.
Explain an inside joke you have with a friend or family member. My best friend Ash and I have the most, hands down. My personal favorite one is when we’re irritated, mad, or someone says something really stupid we mime out the motion of unzipping our invisible jacket to reveal a bomb and then we push the button and explode. You’d have to see one of us do it to really get the full effect though.
What is your favorite random fact? Did you know that the Egyptians thought the most important thing you could do was die.
What actor would you choose to play you in your biopic? Maybe Bella Ramsey. Their my age, gay, and autistic so they could relate to me on those things. Also their just a very talented actor.
What is the most ridiculous thing you believed as a child? My mom told me there was a little man who lived in our microwave and fridge who turned the light on when we opened the door. I used to run between them opening the door thinking the little man was running at hyper speed between them.
What was the first concert you attended? The best concert?
My first concert was Lady Gaga soo basically I won at life. But I think the best concert I've ever been to was actually a Simon and Garfunkel cover band. I saw them at my local theater. They were fucking phenomenal, if you couldn’t see them you would’ve thought it was really them.
Do you have any tattoos?
Yes I have a small tattoo on my thigh. It's sentimental. If I wasn’t poor I'd be covered in tattoos but that's not in my budget rn. Hopefully one day I'll be able to afford more.
As always, Take care of yourself, with love, ally.
