Life is Easier than We Make It

Everyday, I see more than a handful of people talking about life’s quirks as if they’re rocket science: curating meal plans, creating difficult exercises you can only do with a gym membership, seeing someone else with the same hobby as unspoken competition..

Not only does this move us further away from building real communities, but it zaps casual pleasure out of everyone’s individual daily life. People get hobbies just to say they have one, or listen to music just to say they did. They don’t even care if they enjoy it or not! It’s all about what they’d rate it on a scale of 1-10. No one enjoys eating anymore. It’s “calories” this, “intake” that, because all nutrients is being complexed and stripped away by the over-obsessive urge for a specific look. Then you have strangers advertising these things to you; swindling money over something so simple, maybe even with a silent fear that you find out just how simple it is.

A walk in the park is exercise. A dance to a playlist is a work out. A morning stretch, a bowl of oats, and an apple…you’re all set! Petting your cat, watering your plants, cleaning your home, adding trinkets to your collection. Four de-stressers, two doubling as getting work done , and one can be exercise if you do it long enough.

Riding a bike through town! Exercise. Bike basket full of picnic goodies for two with all the food groups. Even a sweet treat can be sustainable. No need to siphon yourself from what people tried to tell you you shouldn’t do.

Almost everyone hates work, but if you walk through work all day, that’s also exercise (unfortunately). Mental exercise if you work in more social settings! Practice your kindness on strangers so you don’t lose it. Set your boundaries so they aren’t forgotten. Remind yourself that humans can be sweet. People think they don’t have time to practice or think of those things, but that’s not really an excuse when you’re forced to interact with people regardless of time. That’s free exposure therapy! You’re always going to hate work, so you might as well make the best of it while you do. You don’t have to hate everything.

Not everyone has to crochet, hike, or sky dive for a hobby! And you sure as hell don’t have spend thousands of dollars trying to turn traveling, concerts, and fine dining into one. Scrapbooking. Takes a journal, paper, scissors, and stickers. Photography. A camera’s all you need! Don’t even need to take it that serious (unless you want to). Doodling! Natural stress reliever. Draw whatever comes to mind. You can doll it up much later and make it look like anything if it bothers you bad enough, and that’s okay. Beauty comes with time. Time will show love.

Bird watching! Sweet little hobby. Nothing but knowledge and observations that slowly re-introduce you to nature’s kindness.

There’s no need to be rude to yourself as long as you live. Other humans already tend to be! Just make the most of yourself.
