Let’s clear up some MAJOR misconceptions about Satanism. >:/ It’s not all about worshiping some horned dude with a pitchfork. That’s just ONE kind of Satanism, and honestly, it’s not even the most common! :o
Satanism is a broad term that includes different philosophies and beliefs. Some people follow Theistic Satanism, which DOES involve worshiping Satan as a deity. BUT!!! There’s also Modern Satanism, like the kind promoted by the Church of Satan (founded by Anton LaVey in 1966). And guess what? THEY DON’T EVEN BELIEVE IN SATAN AS A REAL BEING!!! :0 Instead, they see Satan as a SYMBOL of individuality, rebellion, and human nature. It’s more about self-empowerment and living authentically than summoning demons or sacrificing goats. >:/
Modern Satanists are often atheists or agnostics who use Satan as a metaphor for rejecting oppressive systems and embracing personal freedom. It’s about questioning authority, celebrating life, and taking responsibility for your own actions. Sounds kinda badass, right? ;)
So why the confusion? Well, Hollywood and sensationalist media LOVE to paint Satanism as spooky and evil because it sells tickets and headlines. :( But the truth is, most Satanists are just regular people who want to live their lives without judgment or dogma. PROMISE!!! =)
Let’s stop judging a book by its cover (or a pentagram by its points). Satanism is as diverse as any other belief system, and it’s time we give it the nuance and respect it deserves! XD

My problem with the religion is literally just its name
To me it seems like a religion with the name “satanism” would worship Satan, I feel like a lot of people would get that idea from reading the name
So to me the idea that they don’t worship Satan feels like the word is only in the name as an attention grab and it feels dishonest to me
So I think that’s a lot of the reason most people don’t trust the religion because from a standpoint of someone who is not a satanist it seems like either 1. It is dishonest in its name or 2. They’re lying and they do worship Satan but they say they don’t
I am not sure if this entirely makes sense and I’m not a very judgy person myself but yeah!
I totally get where you’re coming from! The name “Satanism” can definitely be misleading at first glance. It’s easy to assume it’s all about worshiping Satan because, well, the name literally has “Satan” in it. :o
But for many Satanists, especially Modern Satanists, Satan isn’t a deity they worship—it’s a symbol of rebellion, individuality, and freedom. :) The name is more about embracing the idea of challenging norms and rejecting oppressive systems, rather than actual devil worship. ;)
I can see how that might feel like an attention grab or even dishonest, but the name is rooted in the philosophy of using Satan as a metaphor, not a literal figure. XD It’s definitely a point of confusion for people outside the religion, and it’s probably why some folks are skeptical or mistrustful of it. >:/

theistic satanism doesn’t seem logical to me because it originates from abrahamic religions. while its followers view satan as a symbol of rebellion, in abrahamic faiths, satan is inherently a figure of opposition. on the other hand, laveyan and modern satanist perspectives appear more coherent to me, as they are framed in a more secular and philosophical context compared to theistic satanism.
