why is being rude so normalized?

okay, i don't want this to be all "we should all be nice!!" like, no shit, we should; but i'm just stating a pattern which ive noticed MULTIPLE times.

whenever i meet someone new, they usually end up being a jackass. now, i dunno if it's just me that's unlikeable, but i do have pretty nice people in my circle. being a jerk to everyone has become so NORMALIZED its insane, ive literally met someone whose whole personality was just being a douche. 

i'll call them blueshirt. ever since we became friends, blueshirt was just the rudest person ever. they'd judge the terms i used on a day-to-day basis, and overall just shamed me for my traits. they've been out of my life for a while now, but they're still out there, and they're connected to people i really care about; so i can't really open up. i don't wanna get in the way of their friendships just because those are my friends aswell, i'm not that type of person. but after that friendship, they lowered my standards to the point i was suprised when i was shown basic human decency. it's whatever now, but i still do feel a little shitty.

okay, maybe that's just one person, whatever. but oh, no, no, you'd be so wrong for thinking that. 

there's this girl in my class, i'll call her ponytail. she transferred to our school this year, and when she first got here, i was stoked. i mean; she seemed like a pretty dope person... until she started making fun of me for the smallest inconveniences. my appearance. how dumb is that? how do i change the way i look?? i have half-lidded eyes, and she always comments about how "lifeless" i look. and, if you haven't already guessed, she's called me emo before. shocker. it's not even an insult to me, i love emo fashion, but she means emo in a "souless and depressed" way... now, if you know me, you know how energetic i am. i don't shut up at all. she also laughs when my brother (yes, he's a jackass too sometimes), a person who's been in my life for over a decade now, who i grew up with, makes jokes about my appearance. SHE LAUGHS??? the audacity, oh my God. ponytail's also spoiled, so that adds the cherry on top.

let's cut the personal whining, be nice to people. you don't know what they're going through. that's why i keep my friends close. i love them lots. i always will. i'm more than grateful to have such amazing people in my life. being a jerk doesn't make you any cooler, it just makes you extremely unlikeable.
