My High School life

Light Pink Pointer My High School Life

Hey, beautiful people!

Today, I want to share a bit about my high school life. You might be curious about how the school system and daily routine work in Korea, so let me give you a glimpse! Let’s get started!

The Korean high school system is a bit different from overseas schools... The Korean high school system is a bit different from overseas schools. For example, most of the classes are taken in the student’s classroom rather than the teacher moving around. Each class has lockers, so students can grab their things easily. However, there are exceptions for certain classes like music, art, and PE, where students move to different classrooms. One of the most important things in school is making friends. There’s a classic yet foolproof method to make new friends at the beginning of the school year: sharing “Mychew,” a popular Korean candy. You offer it by saying, “Wanna try Mychew?” and that’s how the conversation usually kicks off. Pro tip: Never offer fig-flavored Mychew—it’s a no-go. Most kids talk about their MBTI or which K-pop idols they like to get to know each other better. The school day starts at 8:20 AM, and the schedule is pretty strict—50-minute classes with 10-minute breaks in between. After 4 classes, you have lunch. Then, there are 3 more rounds of 50-minute classes with 10-minute breaks. After that, regular classes end. There’s also after-school tutoring (called “bochung”) and evening self-study (“yaja”). You sign up for both, and these times can be pretty annoying. My school isn’t in Seoul, but it’s the same daily grind! That was a long intro, but let me tell you more about my high school life! 6 years of elementary school, 3 years of middle school, 3 years of high school Let me tell you about my school life based on the school I went to. I wake up at 6 AM and take the city bus to school. Before heading into school, there’s a pretty big hurdle – the teachers who check the uniforms. If you’re not wearing the school uniform, gym uniform, or you show up in regular clothes, they write down your name. If your name gets written down, your homeroom teacher gives you a huge lecture 😭 (I’ve never been caught though). I’m usually the first one to arrive at class, so I open the windows to ventilate the classroom. Then I either sleep, watch YouTube, or do my homework if I have any. Once everyone’s here, at 8:20 AM, the homeroom teacher comes in and takes attendance. About 10 minutes later, the first class starts.

Our school is a mission school, so every Friday we have chapel.

Our School Lunch

After lunch, we gotta have dessert, right? After eating, I go with my friend to the school snack shop...

After eating snacks, I’m full, so I take a walk around the school track...

After 7 periods of class, we have self-study (Yaja). I didn’t sign up for after-school activities...

Thanks for reading my post! I’ll write about school events and daily life when I have time next!!

Please don’t guess which school I went to. Thanks again for reading my long post!
