Florence Adler Swims Forever - Rachel Beanland
What to Expect: A very well written book about a Jewish family who lives in Atlantic City in 1934 who is grappling with a new tragedy and learning how to overcome the secrets of their family which continue to spin out as you turn each page. This book has great characters and a very well written deep plot without the surface level boredom of a normal novel. It is very straight to the point and the reader can relate to each character.
My Thoughts: This book transported me to 1934 in the best way possible. It is the perfect summer read especially if you're into vintage stuff. If I could go back to when I first picked this book up, I would've booked a beach vacation and spent all day laying on a towel and tanning while reading it.
I usually have a really hard time getting into books and find myself skimming the first hundred pages or so to try and get invested, but this was compelling from the very beginning. I love it when a book doesn't waste half its pages with filler, so this was a great experience for me.
Vibes: Have you guys ever been to a hair salon and listened to old ladies gossip while getting their hair done and thought "oh wow thats actually really interesting" then subtly turned your chair to hear more? Well, if you love that, this book is for you. It feels like a really crazy gossip story from an old lady who has like a million years of experience with the wildest thigns happening in her life. When I am describing this book to anybody, that's what I lead with!
Level: Casual Reader (or gossip enjoyer who doesn't read)
