Learning to make your own fabric paint will save you a lot of money, you wanna mix one part acrylc paint with one part fabric softener. Also try and have a pair of scissors you use only for fabric, paper really blunts the blades.
I recommend rattus rattus on youtube, they made a really comprehensive diy video not too long ago and their content is great in general

Either make patches out of old clothes and sew them on or just start ripping up old clothes to sew on to new ones

I saw recently someone cutting up a pair of old jeans to make a bracelet with a can sewed on which looked awesome, and I just learnt how to make studs with cans so I'm excited to try and make something similar. :D
