I NEVER thought I'd collect dolls. As a kid I had minimal interest in them, and was slightly traumatized after witnessing a Barbie's head pop off. But LOOK AT ME NOOOW. Thought it might be fun to put them up here. I've been told that they're "creepy", but I disagree (respectfully), though I do see why they might come off that way. Are they haunted? Don't think so, nothing out of the ordinary has happened with them around yet. Wasn't sure what category to put these entries in, so decided to put them in dreams/the supernatural because I know dolls can be scary for some, and because I think that, inherently, dolls can be regarded in the same way as mirrors: gateways into a person's soul. Not my soul though, maybe yours?
I'm a thrifter, so I see a fair amount of dolls. But the ones I take are the ones that have been reduced in price, and sitting on the shelves for weeeks on end, and that look a bit "unnerving", apperently. I don't know what it is, I just get the urge to take them with me when I see no one else go for them. Probably something to do with being called "creepy" myself in elementary school, by a TEACHER too mind you. Idk, just feels theraputic.
Its not really a collection, and I guess I wouldn't really call myself a collector, I only have 6 in total, but I think they're pretty interesting!
I don't feel like taking them all down, so here's one of my latest ones (this is one of the "prettier" ones, so not sure why no one was taking it):
Sat in store for THREE. WEEKS. Got it for $3, was at $6 the first time I saw it. Just loved the whole look, and the hat!? Fashion at its peak. Even has a bow in the back.
I like to think it ran away from the King's court to join the circus. It got bored of ballet dancing, and became a jester to change things up. Jestering was great and all, but what it REALLY connected with was miming. Ever since it witnessed a mime travelling from France entertain the King, miming has been its passion. So, it kept the jester fashion and went on to be a circus mime. It's very good at it.
Its signature move? Miming a ballerina, then getting slapped by an actual (pretend) ballerina. It's a one-person trick. Don't ask me how it's done, I don't know the ways of professional miming.
It has a tendency to break into fits of miming at random, and this can cause quite awkward situations, especially with polite-society. I suspect this is why it wasn't taken sooner. Luckily, I am not polite-society, and don't mind awkward scenes of miming.
It renamed itself after quitting the court, probably something on-the-nose like Mimette.
