Recently my sister and mom won tickets to see an opera, I bought an extra ticket for myself for $80 WHOLE DOLLARS because they said it wouldn't be the same without me, they practically begged me to go. (lie) Anyway, it was a huge risk getting down there because there was a tornado watch going on the afternoon so we waited hours and hours until we decided to finally hit the road. The wind was about 30mph in certain places, I was watching the weather like a hawk to make sure a nado wasn't coming to get us I did not want to get flung off the road like in The Wizard of oz for real. By the time we got into town, we stopped at Walmart to get supplies and some much-needed grub. I was absolutely parched from the fact that I had packed very little munchies for the trip since it was so last minute. I ate all my rice krispies almost immediately... So we got that and then searched for hotels nearby to crash. We found one luckily, but it was still a bit sus... That night an alarm blazed in my ears for half an hour because some crazy decided they wanted a late-night snack and triggered the smoke alarm. She then proceeded to NOT apologize and shout: "I was just a little hungry!!" Repeatedly. Dogs barked in unison with the alarm. The next morning I begrudgingly woke up with a MAJOR headache from lack of beauty sleep. I was enraged, but I had to get ready for the show that afternoon. We realized we had a few hours to kill before the opera, so we got mcd's and stopped at a local thrift store. Some guy working there proceeded to make objectifying comments about women in the corner which made me quite uncomfy ! so we left quickly. I did manage to get some cute pins with angels and a new scrapbook! Oh, and a DVD.
Then we headed off for the main event, Pagliacci. When I saw the flyer for this opera I knew I had to see it. It has been one of our bucket list things to see an opera, and it only made sense to see one about clowns. (I LOVE CLOWNS) dude this show was absolutely wack, the story was incredible I had a lot of fun.
during intermission we looked around a little at the theatre building, it was so fancy schmancy <3 I really like architecture from 1800s that have been well preserved like this one was.
once we made it back into our seats we noticed that it was taking a bit longer for the lights to start back up. Somehow the electricity had some issue from the weather and there was an outage with the lights. It took a while but eventually, a guy came out and quoted none other than Freddie Mercury, and stated, "The show must go on!" We all cheered and the show started back up like clockwork. All the characters had such cool costumes and makeup design, I also noticed how the lights had a huge part in setting a mood and feeling for the actors who were onstage. The plot felt like Joker, if he was in an opera. I have not seen Foile a deux, I am not referring to that. More like the original comic story. It was really fun and I think it was worth it. I definitely want to see more operas in the future, and if you ever get the chance, you should too!
