Furniture shopping

Doing set-decorating on a historical television series and had to buy some furniture off of someone online. I get to the location which is in one of the most dangerous areas in the city, the place is an old industrial building (we're talking built during WW1) and the instructions say to park in the back alley and meet them on the third floor. I get inside and start walking down these narrow hallways, the floor doesn't feel stable and theres barely any lights in the place. Once I found the freight elevator... and wiped the cobwebs off my face did I finally stop and think to myself "Is this worth it, should I just turn back and keep looking?" sadly I have been looking forever for this item and with shooting having started on Wednesday times running out. I get in the elevator and start going up, the sounds this thing made would make even the Tower of Terror seem too over the top. Truly, any minute I'm sure this thing was about to plummet. Good news, it didn't. Bad news, the elevator stopped... well prematurely. I push the door up and see a small sliver of floor above me. So I literally had to jump and climb to get out, before I finally made it to my destination.

The third floor was filled with old furniture, maze-like in design. Off in the distance I heard a muffled yell calling to me!" heart beating a little faster now as I slowly made my way over to them, once again asking myself "This is it, you'll never be seen again!" but to my surprise the person I found in front of me was an old English woman who greeted me to her shop. Apparently she's been doing this for 50 years, going to auctions and abandoned buildings and buying furniture and reselling it. She sold me the piece for a good price and we ended up chatting for a few minutes, she was also very kind and gracious to show me the stairs which though creaky and steep brought me safely to the main floor where I could escape. So yeah, a somewhat sketchy situation actually ended up on a positive note (obviously the not dying part) but I got what I wanted and I found a new place for buying furniture, if I need to on another production! But seriously, what is wrong with me just going into this building without much thought for my safety, Like who does that?

LMAOOO. If an old lady can survive those parts of town, you can too! Finding decor for set can be hard, especially if ur working on a budget. I'm glad you found a new spot for set stuff and personal :D

Lol to be fair, though she was very polite I noticed a hidden toughness to her character. I'm guessing she's gotten into a couple of argy-bargys back in the day haha

Thanks, yeah it's actually a really great space though for historical productions. Especially since we've already had to make a lot of furniture. So it's nice that I was able to find what I was looking for in good condition! Also not to brag but I am currently coming in happily under budget. So yeah that'll satisfy the producers haha :)
