do you know them?

Winter sits at her window, her breath fogs and swirls up to hug her tight.

Her husband exists between her breathes as she thinks about him, and in the way of stares from everyone around her.

Summer leans against a light pole, and watches the cars as they drive by, her eyes alert.

The men would laugh with their wives at her, but secretly he is a loyal customer, and his wife cannot escape her fate no matter how hard she laughs.

Fall sweeps and mops till her elbows go numb, all day and all night, one house to another.

They only ever call her by her title, never her name, and little by little her humanity will have been stripped away until, much like a leaf in fall, she would turn inward, and dead.

Spring stands at the counter and waits with patience, she will develop arthritis in 20 years.

People come and go, but they never buy from her, her face and skin give away too much, and no one trusts girls who sell if they are not pretty.

The seasons and their woes-

ame
