Fighting to get uncomfortable.

My last actual blog post was 4 years ago... How time flies.

I posted right at the end of COVID on the night before I started a new job at a music store, a job I was gunning for many years... 

4 years later and I'm still there, This marks the longest I've ever held the same job. never thought I could actually enjoy working at the same place for so long, I was also promoted to the head of Pro-Audio & Studio department. 

It's nice to have your hard work recognised, but here in lies the problem:

With a better title and better pay comes the risk of getting complacent, and then BOOM before you know it you're 80, your whole life passed you by and you have nothing to show for it except working for someone else.

I'm a music producer, writer and musician and if you're an artist I don't have to tell you how hard it is to create when you're comfortable... 

It's soo fucked up, I always thought it was some old cliché but this is the first time In my life that I'm (somewhat) comfortable financially, I'm by no means wealthy but I don't have to worry any more about paying rent or buying food or keeping the lights on every month, not having to financially struggle as much and being more relaxed did cause my creativity to suffer.

When I had urgency to create and had to make the most of very little I did my best work... Don't get me wrong, this isn't a "woe is me" post, I'm not complaining that I'm in a better place in my life and don't have to choose between buying gear or buying food

So I had to find different ways to get my artistic mojo going, the solution for me came In a few ways:

I started teaching music production in my studio, having different students with different musical tastes and helping them learn how to create their own music has been very inspiring for me in my own work.

I've decided to fulfil one of my childhood dreams and started developing a visual novel, I'm doing the writing and music, my amazing girlfriend is an awesome illustrator and graphic designer, another friend of ours is incharge of most of the coding. 

Both are things I've never done before and I love being challenged so in a way I now have three jobs so I'm extremely busy every day progressing and working hard towards my goals and I'm excited to come back home everyday and start working.

I hope that some day if I work hard enough I could do these things full time and be truly free of working for others.

So... Back to work!!
