Stargazing

The stars that grace the boundless night
Are dim beside thine eyes so bright.
Dark and deep, yet ever fair,
They grant the heavens richer air.

What need have we of golden day,
When thy sweet smile doth steal its ray?
The sun itself, now pale and slight,
Yields all its brilliance to thy light.

O, how long have I yearned, in vain,
For this eve, this blissful reign—
Where kindred souls at last entwine,
Beneath the moon’s soft, silver shine.

Yet tell me true—this cannot be
A dream that fate would steal from me.
Should these words reach thy gentle heart,
Guard it well, lest it falls apart.
