an interesting website (spacehey), and my personal thoughts

hello!

as of this first blog post, i am a relatively new user to spacehey. i figured that i would share my appreciation in finding a social media platform that focuses solely on its intended function, as well as share a few thoughts to get used to the blogging function.

i remember the late introduction of the internet like it was yesterday. how times have changed! and it's even more intriguing that there's plenty of other people that shared the same frustration of the modern web like i have. for the longest time, i felt the encroaching gloom of greed, selfishness, and isolation taking over the spirit of websites that once used to be a place of reaching out and finding a purpose in someone, or something.

an internet that once used to be a place of necessity in information sharing, content creation, and social networking is gradually, and tragically, being converted into a misused tool. this is not the fault of the internet, however, as it is merely just a victim of the consequences of innovation. one man's good deed would become another's cog in their machine, for better or for worse.

this is applicable to most aspects of life, but for the internet itself, it's almost downright depressing at times to witness. you get so used to the abuse of something that is a wonderful marvel and development of mankind, all the way to the point where it's easy for you to become swallowed by it and blinded by the vitriol. worse, you could even fall victim to agendas that make you lose sight of your own ideals and beliefs.

it's platforms like these that make me grateful that there are still a few of us that are set on preserving what makes up our lives and what it means to be a person, both in the digital and real world. small projects such as this one are crucial to establishing the foundation for change. even if we cannot change the minds of the greedy, we can always be at peace with creating a home for those who know, or want, better.

i think spacehey is a great step towards this, and i am happy to find this place. i stumbled upon it by accident, but when i checked it out i couldn't help but smile and sign up! i am an isolated individual who made the conscious choice to remove myself from as much chaos as i possibly could, and watched the countless fires that have started and burned over the past decade. i continue to try and do so, even if it feels lonely at times.

for once, however, i feel that i finally have a chance at expressing myself in a place that won't subject me to an algorithm that does what a malicious actor sees fit, have a chance at finding those who think like me, and learning things that i want to learn about without censorship or fearing the inevitable digital death of an individual for going against the grain. i have dreamed of such a place for years and have actively searched for a while. not many fit the bill and suffered the same problems modern social media has. this one, fortunately, doesn't. for that, i'm very grateful.

even if this site may not be as active as it was during its initial discovery by twitter, i can't help but feel that maybe it's better this way... at least for right now while the modern internet, and society as a whole, goes through turbulent times. a gem of a website like this deserves to be preserved and treated with a form of respect, and i feel that it takes a special kind of person to come here and do so while understanding what cruelty resides outside of here and why such a place exists.

if the developers and hosts of this website ever reads this, know that i'm very thankful for what you've done and i appreciate your work. i also appreciate those who are fighting the good fight and are making changes that move us forward every day. thank you. <3
