So I recently applied to an art school (grades 11-13 Germany) and to my surprise, I actually got accepted!!! You had to submit a portfolio of 7-15 works with the main focus of object drawing/painting and then you had to pass the entrance exam. In the entrance exam you were given 3 different objects and you had to first do some composition sketches, do a bigger drawing in pencil and lastly paint them with acrylics. I got my portfolio back and I wanted to share the drawings I put in here! I don't have any pictures of the drawings from the entrance exam, since it was strictly forbidden to take any.
Digital Drawings:
You had to print them out, but this is a website, so obviously I'm adding the originals.
These 2 are actually drawings of characters from my DnD campaign, I designed them myself! The first one was for the campaign itself and the second just for fun. They're kitsunes. (Yes I'm aware these are in no way accurate to japanese culture or anything, they weren't supposed to be, it was my first time as a DM, I didn't want to make so much work for myself). I chose the first for the fox skull I drew, which I'm pretty proud of, and the second for the lighting I did.
This is a drawing I did for a friend, because they won 3rd place in an art event I hosted in my discord server. I chose it, because it demonstrates my lineart and colouring style pretty well compared to the other drawings i put in, which were more loose.
This drawing features my OC Jackson, which I draw way too much-. I chose this one for the lighting as well, but it also has his spear(s), that i designed as well.
This was drawn specifically for the portfolio, so that I'd have a digital object painting to add in as well. Here's the reference:
Traditional Drawings:
Since i had to take pictures of them to insert them, they definitely don't look as good as in person, but it'll have to do.
The claw and hair clip(s) were drawn from life and are actually relatively life sized. The hair drawing the glued onto is NOT glued to the background and spins around the top point, you can kind of see the wire I used to make it possible.
I painted this to get a feel for the time limit we'd have at the entrance exam. I can't find the reference photo I used, I got it off Pinterest. I'm not super happy with it, but hey I had around a month to make enough pieces for my portfolio, since I NEVER draw/paint objects.
Also painted from life, also hate it. This is the worst one, but once again, had to put it in.
This is a portrait I did from a picture I found on Pinterest. I decided to paint then, because I thought that they were really unique. I added stickers and beads, since i like to experiment with collaging and mixed media, which i wanted to show off. I made their face too long, especially the nose, making them look way slender than in the reference. Whoever you are, if you see this, I'm sorry for doing you dirty.... Reference below
THIS. THIS IS MY FAVOURITE ONE. Painting metal (with a reference) is SOOO SATISFYING!!!! I really love how it turned out <3. I was originally going to make the background red, but then the reflections wouldn't make sense, so I left it white and added some red stars. Reference below.
This is the last painting from life. I went even more into that collaging aspect here. The background is design paper + watercolour and the paintings are sewn on with red thread. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT TRY TO SEW THICK PAPER BY HAND!!! IT'S HORRIBLE. Was worth it tho ngl.
Once again made with a reference from Pinterest. For some reason everyone in my family is obsessed with the fact you can see the pores on the orange. I'm way more in love with the apple and grapes, they turned out so good. I was also really trying to capture the different materials of the table cloth and the one in the background and i think its fine. It's not the main focus anyway. Reference below
This painting is quite old, I think it was made in 2023. This also had a reference, but I don't have it anymore.
Last, but not least, we this page out of my sketchbook, who have now been reunited. This page just really showcases my traditional style (aside from the chibis I rarely draw). Coloured lineart (hard to see, but it's brown), watercolour colouring, design paper and sticker collaging. It also has 3 of my characters: Nathan (bottom left), Hailey (top) and Jackson, who you've already met.
There is one drawing I left out, which is a 45min self portrait from a mirror, since I don't feel comfortable showing my face.
I hope you all enjoyed this art dump and definitely let me know if you wanna see more! :D
