So, on March 7th, 2025, my original Discord account, which had 500 or so friends (most were inactive, but like 2 or 3 actually talked.. RIP my social life), got banned for "two violations." But plot twist: I only committed one. And even then, I don’t think it even counts as a violation because it happened in my alt account’s DMs. Like, hello? No one else was even involved! Turns out, Discord can read your DMs without your consent. I found out the hard way.
So i kinda used my alt’s DMs as a free cloud storage system because my phone only had 9GB of storage, and 95% of it was filled with schoolwork and other nonsense. But apparently, that was enough for Discord to flag me.
# Discord's Hash-Based Autoreport System is Brutal fr 🔥
• They run a hash-based autoreport system across their entire platform
• If they detect you doing anything "suspicious" (aka silly), say goodbye to your account
• Even if it’s a false positive, appealing is a joke
Speaking of appeals, Discord's system is beyond broken. You can only appeal a limited number of times, and after that, they just stop responding. Doesn’t matter if it’s your first offense or a mistake on their end, once Clyde bot says no, that’s it. Also, I saw some YouTubers saying you can attach images to "clarify your age" in your reports. But honestly? That’s just shady.
# Deleting Data? Yeah, Right.
Oh, and remember how Discord claims to "delete your data within 24 hours" after you remove something according to one of their old twitter posts? Yeah, they don’t. While looking into this, I found a Reddit post confirming that Discord keeps user data for up to 3 months after deletion like three. whole. months.
Meanwhile, real bad people get away with everything because the worst Discord does is IP-ban them, and we all know that’s easy to bypass.
# The Final Nail in the Coffin: IP Handshake
After losing my original account, I shifted to my alt and slowly started reconnecting with friends. Everything was going fine… until two weeks later, Discord decided to intervene. They linked my IP address to my banned account and, boom alt banned. And you know how they figured it out?
• Every time you open the app, Discord does performs "IP handshake"
• Every time you edit anything on your account, they reconfirm your IP
• And what did me in? Changing my profile picture to Yandere Hatsune Miku. 💀
So yea, my alt got suspended for "ban evasion" even though Clyde bot had clearly stated that I was only "temporarily suspended". I was never banned or IP banned, yet Discord still flagged me for ban evasion
Also, Discord logs your IP every time you log in so checking on my old account’s status without a VPN was a rookie mistake.. But still, the appeal system is rigged anyway.
# In Conclusion: I Hate Clyde Bot
If you’ve ever tried appealing, you already know the pain that Clyde bot just says out the same robotic response over and over again. No human intervention, no second chances. Just "We reviewed your case and found that the action was justified" even if they obviously never even looked at it.
So yeah, Discord’s autoban sucks. End of rant

I tried setting up Discord three years ago only for them to falsely claim I already set up an account and to just get a new phone number and email. No matter how many times I've explained this to people who're addicted to the site, their reaction is always something like "Wow, that sounds frustrating! Lol!"
Because of a former boss who bankrupted his own profit and insisted that we clocked in and out via Discord, I've had an extremely negative opinion of it and everyone who uses it. The fact that Democratic Socialists of America and Nadya Tolokonnikova insist on only ever using Discord for communication and activism when I can't get it to work myself has convinced me to quit any kind of organizing altogether.
The fact that Discord is burning its own user base with demands for government IDs, random bans, and censorship a-la Instagram ought to send a message that people need to get off of it and use something better.
