Incipit Vita Nova - Dante by Cesare Saccaggi,1903

"Quando ela surgia em algum lugar, sua saudação acendia em mim uma chama de bondade que me fazia perdoar quem quer que me ofendesse; e se alguém me fizesse qualquer pergunta, minha resposta seria: 'Amor', com expressão de humildade no rosto. E, quando essa mulher gentilíssima me cumprimentava, a doçura me dominava de tal maneira que meu corpo ficava inteiramente a sua mercê. Toda a minha felicidade estava contida naquele cumprimento, que inundava todo o meu ser".

Dante Alighieri escreveu Vita Nuova, provavelmente entre 1292 e 1293, na qual ele narra a história de seu amor por Beatrice Portinari.

"When she appeared in any place, her greeting kindled in me a flame of kindness that made me forgive whoever had offended me; and if anyone asked me any question, my answer would be: 'Love,' with an expression of humility on my face. And, when this most gentle woman greeted me, sweetness so overwhelmed me that my body was entirely at her mercy. All my happiness was contained in that greeting, which inundated my whole being."

Dante Alighieri wrote Vita Nuova, probably between 1292 and 1293, in which he recounts the story of his love for Beatrice Portinari.
