some looks i like!

fashion looks i like!

hiii again! i hope you're having a good night or day, wherever you are. its currently 1:12am, and my mind is still active... might as well talk about some of my favorite looks that have been shown to the public! there are many factors that come into play into why a look is my favorite. fashion has stories; behind each piece, each show, its more complex. its why we marvel at fashion! although, at the end of the day, how it catches my eye is always important ^o^

first: rihanna's look at the 2015 met gala.

rih

this dress will always be her best look probably. this gown is SOOOO elegant, down to the detailing that follows her. its so high class, even the color is accurate! historically, chinese royalty wore yellow. this immediately places her on top of everyone. i love how it alludes to traditional chinese gowns, it connects rihanna to both the culture and the history of the culture she is wearing. the bulkiness and weight of the entire look is so heavy.. it makes her looks like an empress!! i also like how subtle everything else is... the smokey eye is just the perfect touch to this. it really makes the dress the focus (obvi.)  the headdress is something else... it ties it all together and she looks like the queen of everything. ITS JUST AMAZINGGGGG what else can i really say. i like how she sourced the piece from a chinese designer. not many people did that during this year, and a lot of outfits were from western designers. like they didnt look like they were reflecting chinese culture correctly. and its erasure at an event that wanted to embrace chinese culture and designers. but rihanna stood out so incredibly for so many good reasons.

next is everyone's favorite: the mcqueen closer with shalom harlow, ss99

shalom

this show and closer was so ahead of its time. like, soo ahead of its time. i love shalom as well so this might be biased but it really is beautiful and intriguing.  it reflected so many things at once, and was just so complex. focused on the arts and crafts movement occurring during this time, it intertwines itself with new technologies emerging at the same time. this closer finds us at the head of this union, but with fashion as well. it makes us question the developing conditions around us. when her dress was being sprayed with paint, the robots represented artists, not designers. it creates the question of if fashion is still an art form. her facial expressions also stand out to me: as the robots harshly "take control" of her, she's so expressive... to me, this illustrates the effect of technology on humans. its haunting (and maybe a stretch,) but we eventually surrender to technology like how shalom did. the closer is timeless, and its reminiscent to the developments we see today.

finally: my queen elvira hancock in scarface

elvira

now, i know scarface isn’t a fashion-based movie… however, everyone in that movie was flyyyy. i can’t help but talk about the fashion in that movie. michelle pffifer, especially, looked stunning throughout the movie. what makes her style stand out to me is that it also ties into her personality and character. elvira is an icy woman - she is expressionless and is not truly happy. she covers up these facts with her desire for wealth and fashion. her color palettes also create an image of her for us. even though the colors she wears allude to a life of fortune - one she has - it has a two-sided meaning. the teal dress we first see her in is a color that not many can pull off; it’s unique but unconventional, like the woman who is wearing it. as she begins to lose herself throughout the film, her color starts to go away. elvira’s white outfits show her disconnection from the drug-filled world around her, despite still having an elegant look. she looks elegant, but feels empty. in her final scene, we see her in a bedazzling black dress. despite having the wealth that she desires, she is still not content with her life. the black dress ultimately represents her internal destruction and the embracement of how lonely she feels. we see the descent of her character through what she wears. overall, elvira is extremely overlooked as a character, as she represents how damaging tony’s actions are. her fashion choices are essentially silent cries for help.

well, im tired. i hope you had a nice time reading this... im gonna catch some zzz's. see you soon!

if you are reading this, you are looking at my school project!
