flash-something; the line between fiction & non- blurs
there are multiple gods.
it's true.
and no, i don't say that to suggest that Dionysus and Allah coexist, although they probably do.
no, i mean to say -- there is a god of the waters, yes, of creation itself, yes, undoubtedly so, but there is also a god of one-night stands. there is a god of the laundromat. there is a god of Tuesday, March 18th, 2025, 11:24 PM. there is a god of Tuesday, June 7th, 2010, 11:24 AM. there is a god of - specifically - bad movies. there is a god of forgiveness. there is a god of cardiac arrest. there is a god of lemonade.
sometimes you pray to the gods.
you pray to the gods of the
common cold, chicken soup, and best-friendships that Bisan & Frankie
won't get sick from spending one night with you as you lie there nearly
smothered by blankets trying to enjoy the sleepover despite the aches.
sometimes you promise to the gods.
you promise the gods of alcohol, meth, and longing that if he dies you will kill them all. he has to live. that stupid boy, with no will to, with the dark hair & bags under his eyes & walls, he has to live. he will live. even tonight. the alternative is not an option. you promise it is not an option.
sometimes you lie to the gods.
you lie to the gods of school, of exams, of math, and say you studied when you merely read a couple sentences out of a textbook and let your eyes glaze over because you just can't seem to focus and you don't know why.
gods. gods.
gods.
the next time you go to the dentist's, the next time you make your bed, the next time you see a child killed, the next time you make out with a man....gods.
