Hi! This is my first blog post, and I wanted to talk about collecting physical media X3 it's one of my long standing hobbies that i've gotten more serious with over the years. If you live in the US like me, you may or may not be aware of the ongoing media blackout and complete loss of digital media. Unfortunately it's only going to get worse. Many of your favorite movies, music, and tv shows are starting to get mass deleted from the internet, especially media that references any sort of social justice.
Physical media collection is a great thing to start getting into if you haven't yet! Having a physical copy of your favorite songs, albums and movies can bring a sense of accomplishment and bring you closer to your favorite media that you might never expect. Don't underestimate the power of physically holding and owning a media you love! You can even do this with curated playlists and some lesser known songs/albums that may not have an official cd by learning to burn cds!
Burning cds can be a fun hobby to add onto physical media collection for yourself, or even can be gifts you can give to your loved ones on special occasions. I plan to give my best friend a cd of our favorite shared songs together as a curated playlist for his bday this year <3 And to add onto that, the personalization is endless. I'm also an artist and I love to design the covers of blank cds by drawing on designs to give it a more personal touch.
I wanted to talk to my friends on here who already collect physical media and ask if you see this if you can comment your favorite methods to finding and collecting your favorite physical media, especially movies! I have a lot of music physical media and want to get more into collecting physical movies :) these tips may also help any new people wanting to get into physical media in general! (And also add me as a friend perhaps)
A common misconception about media consumption is assuming it's only digital media, and media consumption isn't just digital. While there's physical copies of digital media (the main point of his blog post) I wanted to highlight other physical forms of media such as books! Books are a great option for getting into more physical media that isn't just a physical form of digital media. I always recommend people who want to start reading to start with reading physical books in hand, rather than reading ebooks. ebooks are a great alternative if for any reason you are unable to buy or get access to physical books, but even going to your public library and checking out books is a great start if you don't want to invest in buying books straight out. :] ebooks for many can actually be distracting and discourage people from reading as it can be a really big eyestrain, as well as distractions of notifications from other things on the device you're reading from. physical books 4 the win!
This was a very short blog post but I wanted to end it by saying if you are considering getting into collecting physical media, definitely do it! Owning physical media in a society that is moving towards an almost all subscription based entertainment industry where you must pay a fee monthly and then to not even own any of the media you enjoy, is an active action of rebellion! Don't let these companies bait you into paying for subscriptions for the rest of your life to see your favorites over and over again...talking to you chronic rewatchers! (me)
Have a good day/night everyone and hopefully I convinced someone on here to finally launch their interest in collecting physical media :')
