Episode 5
Is Lain the villain?! It certainly looks like it when she watches her sister fade out of existence in front of her. Do the final lines of this episode mean Lain intentionally, directly caused this to happen to her sister? Lain has always been an eerie character. Her eyes are strange. They are unsettling. They seem cold, unalive. It's rather remarkable how Lain is an appealing, vulnerable, sweet character while also seeming at times cold, alien, and frightening.
So there is a god -- or the God, perhaps -- on the Wired? I thought Lain was a god. Maybe they are both true. I still wonder if it won't turn out that Lain is 'the' god of the Wired... She was talking to herself? Is that part of the prophecy theme of this episode?
