On my recent trip to Quebec, I challenged myself to listen to all of MSI's albums in order while driving. By the end of Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy, I stumbled upon a song I'd never really appreciated before — one I’ve never seen pop up on my social media feed. It is... "Last Time I Tried to Rock Your World."
Honestly, Frankenstein Girls is my favorite MSI album, and I'm hoping to get it on CD for my birthday. Yet, despite how many times I’ve listened to it, I never appreciated this song enough. I don’t think it’s even come up on shuffle when I’ve played the album that way.
After my newfound obsession with this song started, I went scouring the internet for live videos of MSI playing it — and I couldn’t find anything! All I found was a super awesome drum cover, which only made me appreciate the song more. It reminded me how amazing Kitty is as a drummer. I tend to forget that she originally joined MSI just for fun, with only a little drumming experience from when she was younger.
Anyway, I feel like this song hasn’t gotten the appreciation it deserves online, so I’m declaring it one of — if not the — most underrated MSI songs. Of course, that's just my opinion.
The opener, the chorus, and that unmistakable MSI sound make this track such a banger, and I can’t stop listening to it. As much as I want to gatekeep this gem, I can’t — everyone deserves to know about "Last Time I Tried to Rock Your World." Actually... maybe that's why no one talks about it — maybe everyone is gatekeeping it!
Anyway, if you're reading this, give the song a listen. It deserves it. And if you think I’m way off and there’s an even more underrated MSI song, let me know! I’d love to hear your thoughts. I also think "Last Time I Tried to Rock Your World" is a perfect example of a hidden gem because it's on one of MSI's most popular albums, yet still doesn’t get much recognition — unlike some of their never-released demos that are supposed to be "hidden" yet feel way more popular.
If you've loved this song forever, let me know! Or if you have your own pick for MSI’s most underrated track, tell me. And please, don’t come after me — my opinion is only subjective, and we’ve probably explored very different corners of the internet.
P.S. Here’s the song on YouTube and that awesome drum cover I mentioned!
