Β the swan of midnightΒ
by: maiden
upon the lake where moonlight drowns,
a phantom swan in silence glides,
with feathers pale as burial shrouds,
and hollow eyes like widowed tides.
its wings unfold in solemn grace,
a spectral wraith on water black,
no ripples mark its ghostly trace,
no sound betrays the path it tracks.
beneath the stars it softly weeps,
a dirge that chills the midnight air,
for love long lost in deathβs embrace,
for beauty bound in fateβs despair.
once fair and bright, with golden crown,
it danced where lilies kissed the stream,
now cursed to roam in sorrowβs gown,
a shadow carved from broken dreams.
and when the dawnβs first embers rise,
it fades into the whispering mist,
a soul unclaimed, in death baptized,
by twilightβs cold, immortal kiss.
