(to the sterling that died on my doorstep)
I don’t know how you came to be in front of our door
In the cold winter of Massachussetts
A sunny day among snowy days
That you flew into our window
I don’t know how long you were there
When I walked up to my dorm
Exhausted from classes
and thousands of thoughts in turmoil
Seeing you on the cold concrete
you body frozen in a pitiful and sad position
your eyes half open and
a body stuck stiff
I wish I was there earlier
maybe I could’ve taken you in
maybe you would be chirping and jumping
if only I had decided to walk home earlier
I took you under a bush
The ground frozen
Couldn’t even open a ditch to place you in
Your body limp in my hand
I left you there
But I came back
what If you were alive
maybe I could bring you back once more
