>>Dear Violet...<< a little thing i wrote. if you don't read it you will have 7 years of bad luck >:(

Dear Violet,

The breath of the trees rests on your beautiful face. It is a Sunday and we are laying in the dewy grass and I am reading you a book. You are happy and red-faced with autumn apple cheeks and a baby-tooth smile. You are young, like the spring, and I am old, like the fall. Maybe your hair is like mine. The hair I always hated, growing from your head like flowers from a garden bed. It grows fast and healthy. Unbleached, unstraightened, golden and ashy brown, wild. Even when I brush it, it still curls and frizzes like a dandelion’s mane. Maybe your eyes are a dull aquamarine mixed with gray that I always wished was blue. And I will look at you and I will think: “this is the most beautiful child that the universe could have created”.

And when you get older - ten, fifteen, twenty - I will grow older with you, and I will get wrinkled, and my hair will turn gray. And I will look at you and wonder how I ever thought the same features that I had were not beautiful.

I hope that I can save you from that hatred and help you realize that our hair and our eyes, noses, teeth, skin, hands, and chins are all gifts and stories from the roots of the family tree. And I hope that I can teach you of the importance of kindness and freedom. And I hope that you understand that our body is just a temporary vase that holds our flowering heart.

And I hope that you realize that no matter what kind of girl you are, you can do anything if your heart is true and kind.

Dear Violet, I hope I get to meet you, because not only do I know what your name will be, I know what kind of mother I will be.
