I never wanted to sleep

The celestial host, the argent moon,
Glistens above my porcelain cup.
They herald the solemn arrival of eventide,
Bidding the weary world to sup.
Yet I remain, enraptured still,
As the whispering zephyr stirs the boughs at will.

A hush befalls the earthly sphere,
A tranquil spell both mild and clear.
Night’s gentle breath bids all retire,
That they may wake with strength entire.
Yet lo! What splendor they forsake—
The moon’s fair dance upon the lake,
The stars engaged in waltz divine,
A scene too wondrous to resign.

The night-blooming flora, poised with grace,
Seem to murmur, Wouldst thou leave this place?
A garden where first lovers sighed,
Where merry children laughed and cried.
This sacred ground, where oft I tread,
To speak my thoughts ere they have fled.
And lo, the moon, with patient ear,
Doth bend to listen, ever near.

A trove of recollections deep,
That evermore I yearn to keep.
So let the world in slumber steep—
For I, indeed, have no such need.
Why turn away from such delight?
I never wished for sleep this night.

Wow, this is such a beautiful piece! First looking into the title, one would expect that the poem would be something about a disturbance in a person's sleep due to things that are negative. BUT! The start of the poem proved it wrong, with how you described the scene. It made me imagine a person enjoying a cup of wine in the night, looking up at the clear night sky with stars that shines in every corner. And then the last two stanzas gives off such a beautiful imagination of calm and peace.

Really! Who would even think of sleeping at a night like that in such a place?
