Making new friends is difficult

A little bit of context, this year is my first year after graduating high school, so I went to a new place with new people, and after a semester I´m still kind of a loner. I didn´t remember making new friends was this hard.

No, seriously, how do people do it?

It´s not only the fact that you have to talk to new people and find stuff you have in common. It´s also stepping from the "aqquaintance" relationship to "friend", WHY does asking someone to hang out with you feel so humilliating? I really hope I have at least a friend by the end of the year, wish me luck!
