Hey guys!
Today i'll start a series of posts about different artist in the music scene. These will probably be more of a "music apreciation" more than real educated critic about the artist's music. I hope you like these and relate to my opinions!
On todays subject, music for the gays and the girls, thats it. Ayesha Erotica's music diverges from electropop to a very bubblegummy-rap. Whatever the genre, the vibe of her music stays the same: f-cking immaculate. And thats what I want to point out about Ayesha's music, the vibe and the way it makes you feel like you are in a party in Las Vegas getting wasted.
As a gay man, having spent all my life, up until recently, in absolute romantic obscurity, discovering Ayesha was a breath of fresh air. That's why I think the "queens and the queers" like her music so much, because those are groups that often subjected to repression, whether it is self imposed or by society's standarts, and Ayesha's music makes you feel like you can just bypass that, and do whatever you want. Now, we also have to review the more objective aspects of her music, its true that her first songs and albums can be somewhat shabby, for example, in "Big Juicy", probably her most-known the same base is used for two songs, Big juicy and NGSUNC (Not Gonna Send U N*des Chad). The cool thing is that, although both songs use the same base, both have a very distinct vibe/identity to them, which I think is something difficult to pull off. And talking about identity, I think Ayesha's music can be classified 3 categories:
- Sorny: horny music, with the usual theme of sex, but with a kinda melancolic undertone to it. Once I saw a comment under one of her songs saying that under every hipersexual girly, lied a deep desire to be loved. I don't really know if this applies to Ayesha and her music, but it's also not a crazy idea. Some examples of this category would be Vacation Bible School or From the Back (the one I found the comment on). Its not actually a common theme to find in her songs, but i thought id still put it in here.
- Romantic: songs that actually talk about romance and love. Many of the songs of the previous category can be put in this, because of the "need for romance" thing. These are some of her most sweet songs, being part of them probably one of my favorites from her, I'll do it, which is actually a cover for the song of the same name, written by Heidi Montag. This song talks about the desire to fulfill the partner's sexual desires, but I read it more like some kind of submission driven by love.
- Cvnty: self explanatory. Most of her songs fall into this category, including heavy, sex and drug thematic. This are the songs I was talking before, that make you feel free to do whatever you want. If doing drugs was healthy, songs in this category would totally drive me to do them. Examples are: Big Juicy, Break a Neck (made by Odetari in which Ayesha was featured), or Trashy
I'll end this post with my top 3 best Ayesha's songs with some honorable mentions:
- Vacation Bible School: There are more famous Ayesha's songs, but I think this is the one that summarizes her vibe and music the best. It probably could fit in all the previous categories, and makes you feel like a 2000's baddie. 10/10
- Juicy Couture: the first Ayesha's song i've listened to. Oddly elegant and very cvnty, very good song. 9/10
- Yummy: very powerful confidence boost. Shoutout to the righteous remix. 9/10
Honorable mentions
- Feel it: a recently released demo for a song that I think is still unreleased. Its kinda weird but I fw music like that. It made me feel like my english level was shitty until I realised the lyrics are mostly gibberish. 7/10
- Emo boy: i first listened to this sound last summer, got the kinda sound to make me freak. Makes me want to invade a mall. 8/10.
- Girl Next Door: its giving listening to the radio in the morning on a sunny day; in general, the album "Ayesha.FM" is very good.
(Playlist with all songs mentioned so far)
We reach the end, and as you can see, I like this artist a lot xD. Still, if you have different opinions of anything I've stated so far, or think I missed some infor, feel free to (respectfully) tell your own opinion in the comments, i'd love to hear what y'all have to say. Thank you if you've read this whole rant, and see you in the next one!
